To those MSU Students who did Not Vote in SA elections

Dear non-voting students (all 14,000 plus):

Don't take this personally but ya'll freakin suck:

1) It takes less than 5 minutes to go vote and it ain't complicated.

2) If you care about the university, you vote. if you don't, then you don't.

3) SA campaigning does not and never will constitute harassment. Sorry, but some of us care. This the fools in the SA senate who voted for the limited campaign season should especially listen too. If you think being asked to vote and being told why is annoying and harassment, then you should resign your spot in SA senate b/c you don't deserve to be there.

4) To those who come up with the dumbest, stupidest campaign limitations, get a life. School spirit through cowbells and bullhorns and such, especially on election day, is not a bad thing. and you aren't going to be permanently scarred to see or hear it.

5) To the SA whose get out the vote effort did not exist. Yes, it is your job to encourage students to vote. You are the ones who know first hand what all SA does and the importance of SA. Well some of you know what all the SA does. Others of you have been and are still asleep at the wheel. And the incoming, uncontested VP and Secretary should have been on the drill field telling students why they should vote and the importance of the SA. Sadly, they were inexistant. Hopefully they will not be as officers.

6) If students don't vote in SA elections, why should the city or university take student issues seriously. Especially when 90% of students don't even bother to get off their apathy and vote. You don't care, why should they?

If ya'll do not like my comments, oh well. It probably means you didn't vote (you suck if you didn't) or fit somewhere above. I ain't writing to be nice. If I was, i'd be baking cookies and cupcakes instead.

Besides, even if you don't like my comments, it ain't like ya'll could put any bite back. You lack it.

PS: Hey Charlie, hows that for returning to posting.

It's Easter Time.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to wish all my blog readers a joyful and happy Easter. I also thought I should take some time to point out what is important about Easter. Most important is, you guessed it:

THE EASTER BUNNY.

Thats right. What could be more important and so great about Easter than the Easter Bunny. It brings a smile to everyone's face, whether it comes in chocolate (yum yum; reason for easter in itself) or in a furry bunny stuffed animal (thats right, i like stuffed animals, wimpy or not) or in a bunny costume (so cute) or in a bunny itself. Kids light up at the sight of the Easter Bunny and will mug you to get to the chocolate easter bunny.

Then there is the Easter egg hunt. If you are like me, mickey (my twin), and my cousin Chaz, you are great at hiding easter eggs. So great that you can't even find them yourself. Me, i prefer the plastic easter eggs b/c they don't break and come with candy inside. That is unless we have easter egg fights. Then I prefer the real eggs. Oh so fun. And even better, they are really, really messy and some people hate it which means of course, you have to peg them with break away, uncooked eggs. More messy. Of course, rotten eggs work too.

And, of course, the great spring day when little kids and big kids (i have 3 year old to 11 year old tendencies) alike join in. Family and friends and people with split personalities (like me) all around.

Easter is great and i can't but love what the Easter Bunny brings us once a year. So when you go to bed tonight, send a message from your heart to the Easter Bunny and remember "you can always be a kid again."

Life is all about believing and dreaming. Hop, Hop, and enjoy.

Matt's SA Dream Team Picks for 2005-2006

I will provide my current SA Dream Team if i got to choose all the SA Exec officers next year (not including myself; that might be unfair). Of course, i do not know everyone so some qualified people i might leave out.

SA President is obvious = Edward Sanders. He is clearly the best choice for SA President. No one else is really in his league as far as connections, work ethic, knowledge of the student body & government. Sanders could be the best SA president of all time.

Vice-President = Adam Telle. You may not agree with everything he does and some of it may be excessive, but he has shown more so far than any SA President I have seen. He is visible, he is vocal, he works incredibly hard, he is conniving (good & bad), he is intelligent, he is cunning. (by the way, i voted for juan and disagree with adam on several issues). could his SA do more? Yes. But his VP and AG seem to suck as they are MIA. Luckily he has Lamonte.

Attorney General = Daniel Melder. Like him or hate him, no one is a better attack dog than Melder and he has tons of political savvy. He knows constitutions, state law, and cares for the people.

Treasurer = Emily Jones. She easily the most qualified student accountant on campus. And I know alot of accountants. She can manage and detail.

Secretary = From what i have seen, Lindsey Tew is the most organized person holding an office. She handles CR stuff well and would work hard. She just has to keep her emotions in check (can be firey). She would be the secretary you know.

Top of the SA Cabinet # 1 = Lamonte. He's there now and does an amazing job. He works hard, is extremely social, represents students well, and would be a great asset to accompany Sanders.

Top of the SA Cabinet # 2 = Matt Bramuchi. He has worked and done alot for all students, especially graduate students, international students, distance students, etc. and would be a very valuable asset to any SA exec

Top SA Political Advocate(R)= TJ Harvey. He is very well connected as head of the State of MS CR's both locally, on the state level, and nationally. He is also big on youth vote and involvement. He also has plenty of SA experience.

Top SA Political Advocate(D)= Nick Wilson. He also knows tons of local, state, and national politics and he too is well connected. He also has plenty of SA experience.

On campus student Rep. = Tim Jackson. He does a great job organizing socials, educational events, fundraisers, etc. and leading RHA. Who could be a better representative of resident hall students on campus.

Independent Student Rep. = Phillips Strickland. Phillips works extremely hard, communicates with everyone, can be forceful if called upon, and knows how to relate and relax.

Military Affairs Rep = John Yelverton. He lives the ROTC and the U.S. military. No one would represent the ROTC's and military active and reserve students as well as Yelverton would.

Any other postions I could list, let me know. Also, if you have your own dream team, feel free to give it. But be a little more original than having just who you are voting for for SA this year. Also, say why you choose them for that position.

Take care and enjoy.

SA Elections Are Under Way ... I Think

Hey ya'll,

From what I hear, SA elections are officially under way and ready to roar up with Spring Break over and only 6 school days to campaign. Of course, today (Monday), they were at a roaring peak, buzzing all around. Thats right, you could hear the grass grow.

The people out campaigning were sparse and very few in between. In fact, no one got there til 11:00 approx. Being the campaign person that I am, I almost cried. You can imagine the tears. To recover, I walk almost to the Sanderson center, get the TJ Harvey for SA flag out of my car, and return to the Drill Field fresh with my Cat-In-the-Hat hat (maroon and white of course) to campaign for good 'ol TJ. By virtue of the flag and more visible shirts, they were easily the most visible. Sadly, that might not have made Top TEN last year. I also noticed in my 3 hot spot hours (11 til 2 o'clock) a mere two John David supporters, one of which was freshman Miss Martin who led JD's crew with stickers for about an hour or more. I have seen a sign for Clare Cothren for senior class president and a girl supporting Katie Leech for the same spot on the Drill Field with a sticker (maybe more).

To the rest of the teams, ya'll suck. Currently, Corey Carter is running in the Top 3 and he has no opponent. Where the rest of you people at. If you can't work at election time, the chances of seeing you do something in office is zilch. Who wants another figure head AG or VP or Senior class president.

To those who are running; check and look in the mirror to make sure you know you will work for MSU, not be another fool with a title. We already got them.

Get your tail on the Drill Field and campaign. I know i'll be there.

Matt's Political Platform as of March 16, 2005

Below is my personal political platform. Read, enjoy, and respond.

1) …One nation, “defined by the enduring and evolving passions of its people,” indivisible…
2) In “America” we trust.
3) I am pro support, pro choice, and in support of the morning after pill.
4) I am pro Equality in all aspects, not just a few.
5) I am against tort reform because I believe and trust in my fellow citizens and my nation’s judicial system. To say America’s judicial system is flawed in the civil justice ring, in my opinion, leaves questions about the quality of justice in our criminal courts. I have a firm belief in the utilization of common sense however.
6) I am for and urge vivid support of our nation’s police, firefighters, first responders, veterans, volunteers, and military.
7) I am pro volunteerism.
8) I am pro independent mind and thoughts.
9) I believe in strength in beliefs and ideas. In no manner shall someone waver from their ideas, unless they themselves see a need to do so in benefit of life, not politics.
10) I am for American independence in our actions.
11) I am for American leadership abroad
12) I am for a strong military led by our nation’s “military familiar.”
13) I am pro defense.
14) I am for defending human rights as outlined in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.
15) I support and was for the war in Iraq and continue to be. Refer to # 14, not WMD.
16) I am pro environment.
17) I am pro wildlife and animals including greatly strengthening animal rights.
18) I believe we should not only increase funding for, but also increase the size of our national park system.
19) I believe it is vital that we implement the Rapid Urban Flexible Transit System.
20) I believe in alternative fuel research.
21) I am pro stem cell research, genetic research, and genetic engineering.
a. I am also pro cloning in certain types of cases.
i. Cloning of cells in an effort to save lives.
ii. Cloning in an effort to have a child of your own you would not otherwise be able to have.
22) I support a pro aggressive tax.
23) I believe in looking to the future, not only at the present.
24) I am for “fully funding the future,” even if that means tax increases in the present.
25) I am against standardized test scores as a measurement of a student’s or school’s success. Limiting life and knowledge to multiple choice and paper is absurd. Hence, the foundation behind Bush’s No Child Left Behind sucks.
26) I am against the idea of Affirmative Action, especially in public sector of education because I believe every child should be able to achieve their dreams and be able to attend any public school in their state through the masters level. Hence, there should be no need for affirmative action, especially in dealing with public education.
27) I am against faith-based initiatives. God does not rule life, people do. Charities, not churches, should be in charge of helping people.
28) I am against school vouchers to attend private school on government funding.
29) I believe that college costs for a student should be the same as those for K-12 with no cap on enrollment.
30) I believe there should be no caps on enrollment in public graduate schools.
31) I am for casinos in the United States.
a. I believe everyone should have to pass a sobriety test in order to be able to gamble.
b. I believe a person’s gambling in a month should be limited to a certain percentage of their income for the month.
32) I support taxes based on the amount of pollution produced by companies so that they pay their fair share for the costs.
33) I am for limiting nicotine and other harmful and addictive substances with an end in mind in a doctor recommended period of time.
34) I support all those who want to get married, including those of the same sex. Marriage is about the love and passion that two people share for each other. Limiting marriage to that of a man and woman is not defending the sanctity of marriage, but discrediting marriage as only a series of committed sexual acts between a man & a woman til death do them part. I think of marriage to be a little bit more than that.
35) I support all those who want to have kids, including those of the same sex. Just because a person is not heterosexual does not mean they can not take care of a child.
36) I believe in raising the minimum wage.
37) I am for gun license checks and firearms limitations.
38) I am in full support of the death penalty in the United States.

Any questions or comments or ideas or clarifications, feel free to free to ask or express. Also, if you have any descriptions of what I am politically, feel free to describe in as many words as you like. I'm curious b/c some people think i am confused about whether i am a democrat or republican or whatever.

As always, take care, be vocal, vote donkey, and work like a mule.

My position on the 2% tax the SA captured part of

hey ya'll,

i would like to give my thoughts on the 2% tax. this might be long.

First, I AM A STUDENT at MSU.

Second, for the SA and the students it is said to represent, it was a great political move to get any share of the 2% tax of which is Starkville's (not the students or SA's money), much less 20%. how many cities or any government agency gives up tax money that is theirs and theirs alone, no matter how much "us" students say they deserve it and it should be rightfully theres. it just doesn't happen.

Third, what i do not agree about the 2% tax is 2-fold:

a) the 20% of the 2% tax was not earmarked to the SA for anything in particular by the city but i believe only to a general fund which may be in a separate account. the city should have attached strings to the money saying that it has to go to something that benefits directly both the city and students. For example, earmarking the money for things like conventions, funding a convention center, and university to city transit (like city/ university bus route with maybe 3 to 5 buses and 3 routes) would be great uses of the 2% tax. putting it in these things would greatly help and benefit both the city and students.

b) second, the money from the 2% tax is the city of Starkville's money and its people, not the students. repeat, I AM A STUDENT too. Its not my money and the SA and students, despite their rhetoric, have no claims to it. I don't see the SA/students requesting 20% of the tourism tax they pay in Northport,AL (telle country i believe) or from Tupelo or Jackson or Corinth (my town) or Biloxi or Columbus going to MSU students. and yes, it is the same thing. also, that money does help students b/c we use their hospital, their roads, their rec plex on lynn lane, their parks, their fire department, their police in town, etc. We should help pay for that and our tourist tax is way for us to do that. Plus money into Starkville benefits the students and the University b/c it helps Starkville grow which i think we would all like to see.

I have said my say. Take care, voice your comments, and you know i'm going to say it. Thats right. Vote DONKEY.

TJ Harvey for SA President

Hey ya'll,

I would personally like to endorse TJ Harvey for SA President. I have known TJ since freshman year when we were in College Republicans together and have seen how hard he works first hand from day one to his time as CR president to his time as head of the statewide CR's. I have also seen him work to his fullest for the Stennis Montgomery Association.

I have also seen how open he is to people with different views, even if other people nag him about it. For those of you who don't know me, I used to be in the College Republicans and College Democrats before becoming a proud and solely a College Democrat. While I was in both CR's and CD's, TJ helped me get a ticket to go see VP Cheney and helped me go in to the Governor's mansion under new Governor Haley Barbour. He also let me wear both musgrove and barbour buttons to some stuff despite vivid opposition from some other members. He knew that was just me. At the time, I did not declare allegiance to any political party at all, only to encouraging people to vote, even though others refused to realize that then and some still do. TJ listens to others, he doesn't just hear and see them.

TJ Harvey will work for all students, not just a select few groups. TJ Harvey will strive for new ideas and new opinions that will better all of MSU and its students. TJ Harvey may not be as charismatic as his opponent but he will out work him. TJ will outthink him. TJ will out listen him. TJ Harvey will listen to all students, not just let what they say go in one ear and out the other.

More importantly, TJ will out heart his competition and not becauses he uses the same old cliches like "I love this university" and "I bleed maroon, not red." TJ will out heart and out care his competition b/c he cares for the students and for the people. TJ is undoubtedly ready to lead the students and people of our great university.

Take care, think with your heart and mind, and vote for TJ Harvey for SA president.

SA Campaign Time is here (should last longer)

Hey ya'll,

SA elections are firing up and when we get back from spring break, we will be flooded with SA election literature. Alot of people hate all the people and campaign pamphlets and stickers and signs on the drill field. As for me, I personally love the stuff. There is so much energy on the drill field for the university. Unfortunately, some people changed the rules this year and severely limited the time people have to campaign. Well, personally, there new rules suck. How can it be a bad thing for students to be able to voice their opinions and plans for the future of the university. For those who do not like the campaigning, tough. It ain't all that annoying and if it is to you, invest in better nerves. Go ramble on about your nails, classes, day at the hair shop, or other tidbits of life that are reserved for those who have trouble getting to sleep at night.

As for you people with your annoying, ticky tack rules about SA campaigning, get real. Find something better to do than read than the SA Constitution like maybe blogging or class or community service or swimming in sewage. You know, anything. Let students be students. We are here to think and create and live outside the box, not be bound by some SOB with a pen and paper and nothing better to do than make up stupid, worthless rules.

End ticky tack rules, speak your mind, take care, and well, of course, Vote DONKEY.

Clinton, Wbush and W speak

I heard bush created 300,000 jobs last month and now the republicans are popping champagne corks celebrating that bush has actually now passed the breakeven mark and has a slight gain in jobs in his term. Wow, amazing, new jobs. Now, what the republicans did not point out is that the unemployment rate went up from 5.2% to 5.4% b/c so many people lost jobs under bush that they got dicouraged and packed up and went home after more than 6 months of not being able to find one. At least, now a few are out looking which is why the rate went up.

By the way, there were how many new jobs created while Clinton was in office. Yeah, bunches and bunches and bunches. And Bill did it while balancing the budget. By the way, it is nice to know Bush isn't running a deficit for once in something. I didn't know he knew how. Besides, the jobs that are being created to replace the ones that were lost in his first three years are considerably lower paying. But then again, we are creating quality manufacturing jobs at high paying establishments like McDonalds. Your such a star W, but you do talk well and change boats even better, even if your talk lacks pronunciation (can't complain b/c i ain't the best at it and i don't like grammar) but maybe you should work on physical action and end results, not politically popular talking points. They might get you elected, but they don't benefit the future of our great country.

Think about it, take care, have fun, and feel free to post back.

And of course and with heart, i say Vote DONKEY, Vote DONKEY, Vote DONKEY!!!

SA Rant (they get a blog)

Hey ya'll,

The SA has created a blog (thanks ed)

Yes, its nice to know the SA has decided to copy the great and powerful Edward Sanders and started a blog. Yes, we all know you created a blog like the rest of us b/c of the amazing popularity of ed's and there is no shame in that. Like us, be proud of your blog. If they copied Ed in more things, they might get more respect from students. But, of course with the SA, things take a while. Creating a blog is probably the best thing they have done in the past 3 years, comparable only to the night route and getting 20% of Starkville's 2% tourist tax. Of course, i do not actually agree with the SA taking control of Starkville's money but it could be beneficial if the money goes into conventions, convention centers, the night route, and public university to city transit. The money should go to something that benefits not only the students but the university and the people and businesses of Starkville. I hope the money is not wasted on Bulldog bash, old main, or some other party like atmosphere that should be paid for with SA funds and not city funds. Don't get me wrong, I like all of these events, i just believe a party for the students should be paid for by students, not the government through tax funds.

To the SA:
I hope ya'll take full use of your blog and use it for comments and opinions and listen to what the studenst have to say. I also hope you use your blog to keep students updated on SA events and other notable events around campus that ya'll learn of, even if they are not SA ran or sponsored events.

Having the SA blog is great progress for student input on the SA and i am glad ya'll have started one. Maybe the Reflector will mention it so more students know about it.

To students of MSU:

Post often to the SA blog and do so repeatedly (not the same thing) and in good faith. Be honest and sign your name; it gives your statement credibility. Annoy the SA with comments and opinions and be forthright. Let them know what you, the student, thinks. They are the SA. It is their job to listen and read, even if what you say makes them squirm and a wee bit upset. Flattery doesn't get things done. Attack with credibility and new ideas. And, of course, drop by their office and say hi so they can match a face with your name.

Actually, you could even ask Michael if you could borrow the picnic table at the free speech area to shout your opinion and ideas. Or just go stand by the bakery and do it. They have a nice, pretty tree there. Whatever you do, don't go ask for a booth to do it. The union and university can be annoying and there will be new SA officers before you get your booth and you might even be retired from school by then. They can be a hassle.

But that is about it ya'll, at least for this post.

Take care, have fun, blog type like never before, and as is signature, vote donkey.

Blogs all around

Below are a listing of some of my favorite blogs with rayburn's and ed's being the top two, the leaders of the rest of us blog makers. Rayburn's is the journal style, funny and unique, but without all the political intrigue, not that she doesn't fire it off with the best of them. She just doesn't post about it. Ed's is the political and opinion section of our university and the fosterer of political life on campus. Who needs the Reflector or Bulldog Beat when you have Ed's blog.

http://holmesdawgpound.blogspot.com/

http://laurayburn.blogspot.com/

http://edwardsanders.blogspot.com/

http://danielmelder.blogspot.com (melder is the godfather of college democrats and one of the chief CD icon. His comments launched a school and city wide controversy and exposed the SA for underhandedness in city elections, even if there leaders refuse to admit it. And if you can't take the heat and a lot of it, don't talk politics with melder and support republicans. he'll burn you and make you go home to momma)

http://www.philstrick.blogspot.com/ ( the CR enforcer and more opinionated in writing than in person like me. tick him off though and you better be ready to fire back or head for the whipping shed)

http://www.actionjackson05.blogspot.com/ (action is right and he knows it. need i say more)

http://www.sa.msstate.edu/ ( well, they copied ed on the blog thing. maybe they will listen to him on more stuff. they couldn't get much worse. time til telle calls: 22 hours.)

http://blog.bogard.org (CD pres and starting with the reflector, at least on temp basis. who knows what he will say. i found out from ed's blog. possibly more on that later)

http://politicsonthego.blogspot.com/ (charlie swanson, he rights well, even for a conservative. and he admires ed's work and "political ideals." dangerous fellow. should get back with the reflector)

also, i would like to list one of the many websites of nick wilson's. www.traicovn.com. nick is currently retired from blogging but you may found his comments at one of the websites listed above. and for those commenting on the SA's website, nick does give his name when he posts, and not as anonymous.

enjoy, post, comment, and vote donkey. you knew i had to say it.

SEC B-ball Tourney Time

Hey ya'll,

Its obvious to people i know that i like sports and with the sec tourney starting, i have to throw in my 2 cents worth. Throw in my predictions, some trends i see and what not. So without further stalling, here it goes:

We (msu) got a good shot at beating georgia and florida again. howver, bama will be tough as we have dropped to them twice already, but then again, beating us three times will be difficult. Some people say Kentucky does not have the scoring power to win 3 games in 3 days but when tournament time comes around, they are tough to beat. LSU is the hottest team in the SEC. South Carolina can play tough but you never know if they will. And if Vandy gets hot from behind the arc, no one is beating them. Just ask bama about their trip to nashville back in early january. Of course, somebody in the top 5 (MSU, LSU, Bama, Kentucky, or Florida) will fall in the round of 8. Who will that be? Watch out for Vandy to get hot and upset LSU. If not, the cats and cajun tigers will slug it out to see who faces bama. My pick. Cats and bama with bama keeping the lead this time and knocking off the better cats. My heart is with the MSU bulldogs however.

Stay tuned for NCAA tourney complaints. They always screw something up every year and this year will be no different. I'll definitely be back to rant. By the way, if MSU wins the SEC tourney, please throw it in my face for not picking them.

Take care, bulldogs all the way, and as always, vote donkey.

Let the Barking Begin

Ruff,

Well ya'll, after apparently becoming addicted to other people's blogs like melder's, ed's at http://edwardsanders.blogspot.com and laura's at http://laurayburn.blogspot.com, i feel i must, at the idea of papa nick, start my own blog. maybe i'll be active, maybe i want, you never really know. but i like to talk, even if it is among my many personalities. the question is what will i talk about. i have no idea. the ideas will just fit me. you can rest assure i will talk about politics and say vote donkey. there is also a guarantee that i will talk about college sports, especially college football. of course, we all in our hearts, even robert, know that the SEC is the best damn football and baseball conference in the country. most likely, i will end up talking about school politics and of course, ruf which is found at www.ruf.dk.

Of course, i was told to cease and desist from ed's blog by a unique little lady, so maybe that is the reason i started this blog. With her permission, i think i can use this one. either way, i'll enjoy posting.

also, i speak only for myself on blogs and not for anyone else or any particular group. so, if i offend anyone, i do apologize. i do state however that this is just a blog. you'll have to learn to live with it. but do feel free to fire back.

take care, have fun, and as is signature, vote donkey.
